JEDDAH, 31 October 2003 — Al-Ahli of Jeddah won its first game in the Arab League Championship when it beat Qadisiya of Kuwait 2-1 in Kuwait on Wednesday.
After a goalless first half, Qadisiya netted through a header from Brazilian striker Ronaldo in the 60th minute. Ahli was quick to strike back and Hussein Abdulghani scored the equalizer in the 63 minute. Ahli’s winning goal came in the 86th minute when striker Waleed Al-Jizani successfully converted a penalty kick.
Sunday will feature the return games when Ittihad (Jeddah) will play in Jeddah and Hilal (Riyadh) will play against Al-Jeesh of Syria in Riyadh. Ahli will play the return game against Qadisiya in Jeddah on Monday.
In the ongoing league of King Fahd Cup Soccer Tournament, Wehda of Makkah tied 1-1 against Ittifak in Dammam and Riyadh (Riyadh) won against Shola (Kharj) 3-2. Wehda now remains in third position with 14 points, Ittifaq in 8th position with 11 points and Shola in 11th position with 7 points.
