Hotels Offer Getaway Breaks

JEDDAH, 8 November 2003 — Sixty InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels and resorts across the Middle East and North Africa have attractive room rates on offer during Ramadan. Special rates start at $50 per room per night and two children under 12 can share their parents’ room free of charge.

The 323-room Crowne Plaza Jeddah, with Thomas Schmelter as general manager, is an attraction to families, with rates starting at $75 per room per night. Close to the Khalil International Museum, the gold and antique souqs and the horseracing track, the hotel offers the latest in-room amenities and is termed an ideal spot for sports enthusiasts, with its newly refurbished “Body Zone” health club boasting squash courts, sauna and steam bath, a state-of-the-art gym and swimming pool.

The 840-room Semiramis InterConti-nental Cairo has rates starting at $130 per room. The Museum of Egyptology, downtown shops and souqs are a stroll away, while the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx are a drive away.

The property combines elegance with Egyptian tradition and boasts four new restaurants, all designed by world-renowned Tony Chi. The Bird Cage offers a modern twist to Far Eastern tastes, Sabaya and Pane Vino serve the best of Mediterranean cuisine, while Rhitmo offers light meals and relaxing atmosphere.

Egypt’s Red Sea Riviera is another Ramadan getaway destination, and rates at the Holiday Inn Resort Safaga Palace start at $50 per room per night. Surrounded by white sand beaches with magnificent coral reefs, the 327-room hotel is a paradise for water sport enthusiasts, while the ancient settlement of Luxor is a couple of hours drive away.

In Lebanon, the InterContinental Mountain Resort & Spa Mzaar offers rates at $125 per room per night. The 131-room property features an underground parking area from where large elevators take guests directly to the ski slopes, while the Mediterranean beaches are only an hour away by car. The resort also boasts boutiques, a 100-seat cinema and a kindergarten, while the exclusive Les Thermes du Mzaar Thalassotherapy & Balneotherapy Center offers a wide range of treatments, including essential oil massage, hydro massage, special body wrapping, pressotherapy and marine mud application.

With an offer of $101 per room per night the Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi is close to the city’s major shopping districts and places of interest such as the gold souq.

In Jordan, the Holiday Inn Amman opens up a multitude of opportunities to sample the Kingdom’s historical, cultural and leisure attractions. Ramadan rates start at $65 per room per night, and the hotel offers 218 rooms and 18 luxury suites, as well as four internationally themed restaurants, a fitness center and outdoor swimming pool.
