PHILADELPHIA, 1 December 2003 — Allen Iverson scored a season-high 50 points despite playing with a touch of flu as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Atlanta Hawks 98-86 in the NBA on Saturday.
Iverson was coming off a season-low 12 points against Indiana on Friday when he was bothered by the virus but against the Hawks, he already had 13 points by the end of the first quarter.
John Salmons added 13 points for the 76ers, who moved back to .500 (9-9) and into first place in the Atlantic Division.
Iverson finished 20-of-34 in the game, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range.
Kenny Thomas helped out with 13 rebounds for Philadelphia. Jason Terry scored 20 points for Atlanta (6-12), while Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 17.
Knicks 79 Hornets 74
In New York, Allan Houston scored 18 points to power the Knicks past the New Orleans Hornets 79-74. Dikembe Mutombo added 13 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks for the Knicks. David Wesley had 16 points to top New Orleans, while Baron Davis added 13 points and 10 assists.
Pistons 80 Wizards 69
In Washington, Richard Hamilton scored 25 points as the Detroit Pistons smothered the Wizards 80-69.
Chauncey Billups added 22 points for Detroit, while Ben Wallace hauled down 11 rebounds as the Piston won for the eight time in their past nine meetings against the Wizards. Brendan Haywood had a career-high 23 points and 11 rebounds for Washington.
Heat 78 Raptors 66
In Miami, rookie Dwayne Wade scored 16 points to lead the Heat to a 78-66 win over the short-handed Toronto Raptors.
Antonio Davis and Jerome Williams didn’t play for the Raptors, as they are part of a six-player deal with the Chicago Bulls that just needs NBA approval when the league office opens today.
Vince Carter also missed playing time after suffering a jaw injury, but returned late in the fourth quarter. Lamond Murray scored 14 points for the Raptors, while Carter added 13. Jalen Rose is believed to be moving to Toronto in the deal.
Grizzlies 122 Cavaliers 115 (2OT)
In Cleveland, Pau Gasol had 37 points and 11 rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies scored a wild 122-115 win over the Cavaliers in double overtime.
Shane Battier added 22 points and 12 rebounds for Memphis, while Mike Miller added 20 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds. Rookie sensation LeBron James had 33 points, 16 rebounds and seven assist for the Cavaliers, while Ricky Davis added 25 points.
Mavericks 92 Timberwolves 88
In Dallas, Michael Finley had 25 points and eight rebounds to lead the Mavericks past the Minnesota Timberwolves 92-88.
Antawn Jamison added 14 points and 13 rebounds and Steve Nash had 17 points for the Mavericks, who played without Dirk Nowitzki. Kevin Garnett had 28 points and 20 rebounds for Minnesota.
Bucks 100 Celtics 94
In Milwaukee, Michael Redd scored 23 points to lead the Bucks to a 100-94 win over the Boston Celtics. Desmond Mason added 22 points for Milwaukee, while Joe Smith had 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Bucks became the first team to score 100 points on Boston this season.
Mike James had 23 points for Boston, while Paul Pierce added 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Boston beat Milwaukee 106-96 at home on Friday night.
SuperSonics 95 Rockets 88
In Seattle, Rashard Lewis had 27 points and nine rebounds to lead the SuperSonics over the Houston Rockets 95-88.
Antonio Daniels added 13 points for Seattle. Steve Francis led Houston with 28 points while Yao Ming scored 19 points and added nine rebounds.
Warriors 91 Spurs 89
In Oakland, Nick Van Exel scored 29 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 91-89 win over the struggling San Antonio Spurs. Erick Dampier had 16 rebounds and nine points for the Warriors, who improved to 8-7. Tim Duncan had 27 points and 15 rebounds for the Spurs, who are just 9-8 after winning the NBA title last season.
Nuggets 98 Clippers 86
In Los Angeles, Voshon Lenard scored 26 points, leading the Denver Nuggets past the Clippers 98-86. Andre Miller added 19 points for Denver (10-6), while Carmelo Anthony had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Corey Maggette led Los Angeles with 22 points and eight rebounds.
The Clippers have lost six straight.
