JEDDAH, 9 December 2003 — Ailing football club Leeds United has confirmed it expects to hear about a takeover offer from a consortium headed by Sheikh Al-Khalifa of Bahrain and including two Saudi businessmen.
Leeds Chief Executive Trevor Birch said: “I think the sheikh is heading a consortium. We have not had an offer, but there is an intention to consider an approach from him.
“We will be talking to him in order to try to progress that,” he added.
The heavily indebted club came to an agreement with its creditors last week which avoided the immediate threat of bankruptcy.
