RIYADH, 6 January 2004 — The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh said the death benefit claims it has filed on behalf of an Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), who died 18 years ago, had been finally resolved in favor of the victim’s family.
In a press statement, the embassy said Hail Judge Salama Al Jaloud’s Nov. 4, 2003, judgment authorized the release of the blood money due the family of the late Meliton Bayas amounting to SR50,000.
The embassy said it received a check drawn against Al Rajhi Bank (No. 1535472), and that was duly remitted to the heirs of the deceased through the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila.
Bayas, who was under the sponsorship of the Saudi Elevator Company, died in a car accident in Hail on April 8, 1985.
The press statement credited the embassy staff, Mangigin P. Disomimba and Hassan P. Cali, for getting the claim settled successfully.
Ambassador Bahnarim A. Guinomla has ordered that work on pending claims of all OFWs in the Kingdom be given priority by the embassy personnel concerned, the statement said.
