ARAFAT, 2 February 2004 — There was double delight for an Indian couple here on Saturday. After attending the standing on the plains of Arafat, New Delhi residents Meraj Begum and her husband, Jalaluddin, were blessed with twins.

Meraj gave birth at Al-Noor Hospital later in the day. The babies were delivered by Caesarean section and they and their mother are doing fine. The twins — a girl and a boy — were appropriately named Mina and Arafat respectively.

According to a hospital source, the babies were premature and one of them, weighing only 550 grams, is in an incubator.

Arab News attempted to contact the couple but the husband was completing the Haj rituals and the wife’s doctors would not allow her to speak to the press.

Hospital sources said that Meraj would remain in hospital for a few more days. They did not specify which of the twins was in the incubator.
