JEDDAH, 5 February 2004 — A new agreement has been reached between a Saudi hospital and a British university for providing part-time postgraduate courses in sports therapy.
The link between the Prince Faisal Sports Medicine Hospital and Manchester’s Metropolitan University in cooperation with the General Presidency of Youth Welfare will enable people who already have a degree in physiotherapy to pursue the British-led part-time postgraduate courses.
The sports education program was introduced to the Kingdom three years ago with the assistance of BAE Systems which directs the sports cooperation agreement between Saudi Arabia and Britain. The courses have been specifically designed for professionals who have an interest in sports medicine.
“Students are taught the concepts of how sports injuries can develop and they also examine the rehabilitation, monitoring, assessment and psychological factors in managing the athletes’ return to competition,” said Neil Roach, a lecturer at Manchester’s Metropolitan University, who directs the sports physiotherapy program.
