RIYADH, 6 February 2004 — Unlimited VI survived the reversals suffered by the league top two to become Team of the Week during the 8th session of the NAK Park USA Sunday Night Bowling League 8th Conference at the Riyadh Bowling Club lanes here.
After leaders D’Marvelous and D’ Invaders fell in succession, Unlimited VI avoided making it the third heavyweight to bite the dust with a comprehensive 24-16 triumph over Schneider Electric on total pinfalls of 4,242 and 4,074.
D’Marvelous was at the short end of a 23-16 verdict against Blue Blood on total pinfalls of 4,118 and 3,983, while D’Invaders took a 19-12 beating from HTG-Margie on total pinfalls of 3,863-3,799.
Defending champion Al Mishari Pinbusters, still in the lower half of the standings, put on an impact performance in a 21-7 demolition of Okay Lang on total pinfalls of 3,960 and 3,636.
Jadawel Bowling Club stopped Saudi Tornado 23-15 (4,072-3,951) in the other match in the five-man team tournament sponsored by NAK Park USA.
Schneider Electric’s Marvin Arocena outraced everyone for the individual Bowler of the Week honors, carding the high series of 931 on lines of 239, 221, 205 and 226.
The next two after Arocena in the individual standings are Unlimited VI’s Mike Mangubat and Rod Tagaban who paced their team with 903 and 889 respectively.
Mangubat hit games of 258, 236, 221 and 148 while Tagaban tallied 207, 201, 204 and 277. Dads Pangilinan and Ely Fanugao also bowled solid for Unlimited VI with 839 and 837 respectively, while Mel Ancheta added 614 and Ding Balagtas 160.
At the vanguard of Mishari charge was Manny Librilla who rolled a series of 826. Supporting Librilla were Elmer Penoso with 816, Romy Vargas with 808, Jett Cabana with 793 and Bebot Esplanada with 717.
Blue Blood drew the top score of 845 from Nestor Ranido, 804 from Frank Ranera, 700 from Shakur Kamlian, 606 from Nibs Usman and 602 from Reny Dimapilis.
A total of 22 players hit 804 or better including three from Jadawel namely Raman Gurung at 841, Arnold Marchan at 823 and Jojo Miraflor at 819.
