Sudanese Pilgrim Killed, 18 Hurt in Highway Accidents

JEDDAH, 7 February 2004 — A Sudanese pilgrim was killed and four others were injured when their minibus overturned after a tire burst on the Makkah-Madinah Expressway, Al-Madinah daily reported yesterday. The accident occurred nearby Toufik gas station on Wednesday evening. The paper named the dead pilgrim as Dr. Sana Fadlullah.

In three other accidents on the same road, 14 passengers including five Pakistani pilgrims were injured.

Elsewhere, the driver of a pilgrim service company ran over a security officer in Mina when the latter tried to stop him. The policeman, who sustained serious injuries, was admitted to Al-Noor Hospital in Makkah.

In Mina, police found the body of an ihram-clad pilgrim on the pedestrian road. The body was taken to a hospital for a postmortem to find out the reason for the man’s death. Police believed that the pilgrim died of natural causes while walking from Arafat to Muzdalifah on the second day of Haj.
