RIYADH, 19 February 2004 — For the first time in the Kingdom, an international symposium on bleeding disorders will be held at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center here between Feb. 21 and Feb. 23, according to Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Musa, chairman of the symposium organizing committee. “The symposium is expected to attract international experts on bleeding disorders,” Dr. Al-Musa told Arab News.
The event will see the unveiling of a plan for the first internationally recognized national hemophilia program in the Gulf region, he added.
Topics for discussion will include recent advances in molecular diagnosis and gene therapy, particularly in hemophilia, the current status care, diagnosis and treatment in the country and the ultimate goal to establish the national program for bleeding disorders.
“We would also like to invite people from the Gulf to participate to establish collaboration with our neighbors so that KFSH can be recognized as an international hemophilia training center,” Dr. Al-Musa said.
