JEDDAH, 20 February 2004 — Saudia Milk’s opener Syed Amer scored an unbeaten 140 to lead his side to a 10-wicket win over Young Athlete and Manjeet’s hurricane 113 enabled SGB Baroom to beat Contraco by 7 wickets in the 7th week matches of the SGB Baroom-sponsored League (Premier Division) & organized by JCL. Elsewhere, IDB upset Mahmood Saeed by 13 runs.
Saudia Milk openers Syed Amer and M. Javed went on the rampage and raced to their target of 243 for no loss in 30 overs. Amer was the more severe clearing the boundary with some powerful hits to the fence. Matching him ball for ball was Javed who scored 80 runs with 8 fours. The two put on 100 runs in 14.3 overs. Earlier, Young Athlete were all out for 239 runs with Hussain topscoring with 58 runs and was well supported by Humayun (46), Nadeem (29), Shakeel (23), Saleem (22) and Munawar (27 n.o.). Shakir with 3 for 23, Syed Amer (2 for 58) and T. Amer (2 for 26) bowled well.
SGB Baroom had a convincing 7 wicket win thanks to Manjeet with 113 runs, six fours. In the company of fellow opener Rashid Butt who scored 66 of 59 balls, they put on 148 runs. Manjeet and Niaz (38) then put on 73 runs for the 2nd wicket to bring his team close to the target before he was out. SGB Baroom posted 265 for 3 in 33.3 overs, easily overhauling Contraco’s 261 all out. Opener Kaleem (66) and Shakeel (59) added 112 runs for the 2nd wicket. Azeem (31) and Shahzaad (20) lent support in a tally of 261. Sohail and Mujahid picked up 3 wickets each.
IDB opener Khawar’s knock of 65 runs of 46 balls (8 fours and a six) set the tone of the innings as Mahmood Saeed bowlers Mahfooz, Farooq and Amjad were hit all over. Rashid Malik (30), Jawad (24), Abid (39) and Ataurahman (46 n.o.) took IDB to 271 all out. Shahid picked up 5 for 54 and supported by Atif with 2 for 43.
Mahmood Saeed’s Irfan led form the front with a gutsy 82 of 52 balls, including 12 well-timed fours. Irfan and fellow opener Kamran (29) put on 98 for the opening wicket in 9 overs and by the time he was dismissed Mahmood Saeed were 150 for 2 in 15.2 overs well on their way to the target. Although Asgar (47) and Amoudi (29) kept up the tempo, tight bowling by Khawar (3 for 54), Misbah (3 for 34) and Rashid (2 for 41) put the brakes on Mahmood Saeed and they were all out for 258, 13 runs short.
