PORTIMAO, Portugal, 22 February 2004 — Argentinian rider Martin Garrido won a sprint finish to take the third stage of the Tour of the Algarve here on Friday just ahead of Australian Stuart O’Grady and race leader Candido Barbosa of Portugal.
Five-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong finished down the field in 55th position but with the same time of 4hr 36min 59sec as the race leaders after the 180km stage between Lagoa and Lagos ended in a massed sprint.
Barbosa holds his overall race lead, nine seconds ahead of Spaniard Alberto Benito, with O’Grady in third at 13 seconds and Armstrong 25 seconds off the pace in 74th position overall.
