JEDDAH, 27 February 2004 — The multititlist Cris Villavelez added another laurel to his cap when he captured the coveted 2003 Bowler of the Year title organized by the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) at the Jeddah Lanes Bowling Center.
Lefty Villavelez turned in a deadly display against his archrival, Joey Salvador in the final stepladder match. In the first game, Villavelez scored 210 to beat Salvador, who scored 189. And in the final game, the highly spirited Villanelles continued his awesome display to humble anew Salvador with a score of 210-193.
The jubilant Villavelez went home with a cash prize of $1,000 plus a personalized FTBJ jacket and a trophy. An elegant men’s wristwatch donated by Samara Oriel of the Jeddah Lanes Bowling Center was also awarded to Villanelles for scoring a game-high of 270.
The second placer, Joey Salvador pocketed a cash prize of SR2,000 while the 4 perfect gamer, Rally Zamora won SR1,500 for landing in third place. Roger Abantas secured the fourth place and won a cash prize of SR1,000.
The prolific Edwin Ronquillo took the fifth position and the cash prize of SR500. Dhads Gueco, Jun Pilipina, Val Magsino, Danny Manriza and Jess Pineda occupied the sixth, seventh, eight, ninth and tenth positions, respectively for cash prizes of SR500.
