JIZAN, 24 March 2004 — Police have found the body of a missing prosecutor Majid Abdulkareem Al-Zuaeili, in a building on Jizan beach. He had been stabbed to death. Police arrested an Egyptian carpenter who had in his possession the victim’s cell phone.
The father of the victim had earlier informed the police that his son was missing. He had left work Saturday night and never returned home.
The second day after the disappearance, the family received a message from his cell phone demanding SR25,000 in ransom.
For two days, the family tried to call the cell phone, and the person who answered threatened to kill the victim unless the ransom was paid. The police traced the location from where the phone calls had been made. Narrowing it down to Al-Safa neighborhood. The police searched the area for suspects and found a person sitting in a cafeteria busy writing phone message.
Policemen entered the cafeteria and dialed the number of the missing prosecutor’s phone and the phone rang, leading to the arrest of the man. According to a police source, the arrest came one day before he was supposed to leave the country on a final exit visa.
