White Team Clinch Victory at Juffali Spring 2004 Team Tennis Tourney

ALKHOBAR, 26 March 2004 — After a month-long intense tennis competition, the White Team finally captured the highly coveted championship trophy at the Juffali Spring 2004 Team Tennis Tournament. The winning team was composed of Florante Catanus, Junjie Lomibaw, Noel Lasorata (Team Leader), PJ Briagas (Asst. Team Leader), Vic Kempiz, , Willie Basilio, Ed Rodriguez, William Buot, Banny Balanguit, and Jun Nacario.

Banking on their seasoned players, the White Team garnered a total of 251 points for the tournament, brushing aside the Orange Team during the championship game. Behind only by 2 points, the impressive efforts of Gray Team, who chalked up 249 points, were not enough to upend the champions but earned them the first runner-up trophy. The team is composed of Jorge Nacional, Edwin Cruz, Efren Roman (Team leader), James Sidro (Asst. Team Leader), Alfred Villanueva, Robert Elsisura, Jun Pe_aranda, Cris Salvador, Augusto Tayoto, and Manuel Mendoza.

The Orange Team spearheaded by Danny Paring, Edgar Laderas (Team leader), Ed Quinto (Asst. Team Leader), Russel Bobis, Oswald Arcales, Remy Pagaduan, Edwin Francisco, Ato Ronquillo, Rene Villaruel, and Boy Verzosa failed to sustain their run, achieving only 218 cumulative points and was deprived of the team trophy.

For being the consistent partners and undefeated throughout the entire tournament, the Gray Team tandem of Robert Elsisura and Alfred Villanueva were adjudged the ‘best doubles partners’.

The awarding ceremony was held on March 20, 2004 at the Juffali Bachelor’s Compound and attended by players and invited guests.
