JEDDAH, 26 March 2004 — ABS-CBN the Filipino Channel, Lube Ref Jeddah (Saudi Aramco), Unilever S.A. (Close Up) and SPS-Kodak Express emerged triumphant at the ongoing 10th Seiko-18th FBA Basketball Tournament at the Ittihad Sports Club in Jeddah.
The cagefest is organized by the Filipino Basketball Association and principally sponsored by Al-Hussaini & Co.
Three points shooting competition will also start this week and the office of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo from Manila will donate major prizes.
Last week games results: Willy Corpuz Saudi Archiridron (SARCO) of Shoaiba suffered their second straight loss in the tourney when they lost to ABS-CBN-TFC chargers of Jet Gonzales (83-76). The victory keeps the TV cagers in contention for the magic four slate at the end of the elimination round via the foursome combination of Joven Batuhan, Rene Consignado, Nelson Ducha and Rene Tablante Jojo Banal, Oba and Garcia fought hard for the SARCO team but to no avail.
Lube Ref-Jeddah (Saudi Aramco) led by Moussa won their second game over the Friday Club team of Raul David (87-81) via the sweet shooting prowess of Gatpandan 24 points, Enriquez 23 points, Magcosta 16 and Malaika 9. Friday Club ace players Custura, Defensor, Alba and Siaga also played well for their team. After a long wait, Unilever S.A (Close Up) of Daleo Rivera emerged victorious in their first game against Sharbatly Corporation led by Richie Penaflor and Coach Alex (92-85) in a very exciting match.
Dela Cruz, Indal, Buhat and Quizon were instrumental in the victory of their team. Wartsila Lions of Coach Noel Atienza came in stronger in the first ten minutes of play only to lose (90-70) against the stronger squad of SPS-Kodak Express managed by Edgar Mendoza. Dones topped the scoring list, followed by Ryan Cruz, Caperal, Miguel and David.
Batuhan top scored for Wartsila, folowed by Soliveres, Agustin and Ted Fabian. Best players who got Seiko bags & shirts plus forty percent (40%) discount cards from Samsung were Joven Batuhan of ABS-CBN TFC, Custura of Lube Ref Jeddah (Saudi Aramco), Dela Cruz of Unilever S.A. (Close Up) and Dones of SPS-Kodak Express.
