Call for Women’s Section in Courts

DAMMAM, 27 April 2004 — Saudi women, including literary figures and businesswomen, called for female sections in courts to deal with cases involving women. The demand was made on behalf of 40 women in a letter addressed to Minister of Justice Abdullah Al-Sheikh. The letter also asked that these departments be responsible for informing and educating women of their rights while following up court cases. It wants the female sections to be administered by Saudi women who are lawyers or graduates of the Shariah College.
