RIYADH, 10 May 2004 — A Japanese who drives the most expensive car in the world is in the Kingdom to promote friendship between Saudis and Japanese on wheels.

“The purpose of my visit is to introduce my $2.5 million car,” K. Kajino of Japan’s Motor Faith Co. Ltd., the owner of the vehicle, told Arab News.

He said his main interest was to use his car as a means of promoting better understanding among the owners of expensive vehicles and perhaps to enroll them as members of the Junior Chamber International, a worldwide federation of young leaders from 18-40 who organize projects related to business, the individual, the community and international development.

Why Saudi Arabia? “Well, it’s a rich country with all types of cars, including the luxury models. Through my car, I hope to reach out to the group of exclusive car owners. The manufacturer produced only three of these cars in 1994. Of these, two are in Japan and the other in the US.”

Kajino notes that there is a super car club in Japan. In the Kingdom, too, there was a niche market for super luxury cars. He describes his car, which is made of carbon fiber, as “a piece of art on wheels.” It has a Japanese component, since the vehicle’s TV monitor, which provides the rear view, is made in Japan.

Besides its fancy price and fabulous look, the car grabbed racing headlines when it won the top prize at the Le Mans Endurance Test Race. Though super fast on the track, the vehicle can also be used for meandering through mainstream traffic.
