RIYADH, 13 May 2004 — Police are trying to find out the full identity and family details of a Sri Lankan killed on April 24 who was knocked down by a car as he crossed King Abdul Aziz Street opposite the capital’s Sahara Mall. At the time of death, he was wearing beige trousers and an off-white shirt.
According to police reports, he was aged between 30 and 35 and he had no identification except a letter in Tamil written to a Muhammed Faizal which seems to be from the recipient’s sister, Shamina. The letter mentions a brother named “Farhan” who is also working abroad.
The body is being held in the Riyadh Central Hospital mortuary while police continue their investigations.
A diplomat at the Sri Lankan Embassy said: “To get a clearance certificate from the embassy, we first need to identify the dead person and then get approval from the next of kin.”
The diplomat added that the mission must also receive compensation for the death, depending on the final police accident report.
