RIYADH, 25 May 2004 — The Japanese government has announced an undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship program for Saudi students wishing to study in Japan.
“The selected (postgraduate) researchers will be given a monthly scholarship grant of SR6,000 plus a round-trip-ticket to Japan and tuition fees” for the two-year program, said Toshio Sano, minister at the Japanese Embassy.
Applicants must be under 35 as of April 1, 2005, Sano said in a statement. Sano said that the duration of the research program will be two years or in some cases 18 months. Undergraduate courses will last five years including a one-year foundation course in Japanese and other subjects beginning April 2005 until March 2010.
For students majoring in medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine the scholarship runs for seven years until March 2012. Applicants for the undergraduate program must have completed 12 years of school in Saudi Arabia and be between 17 and 21 years old as of April 1, 2005. All applicants including those seeking enrolment on research programs must have communication skills in English.
Applications must be submitted by July 14. Application forms are available at the embassy and the consulate general in Jeddah.
