RIYADH, 27 May 2004 — If you have someone in mind who deserves recognition by the Philippine government for services related to the overseas Filipino community, now is your chance nominate them to the 2004 Philippine Presidential Awards.
A press statement by the Philippine Embassy yesterday said the deadline for submission of nominations has been extended to June 15.
Given once every two years by Malaca?ang Palace in Manila, the awards includes four categories:
• Lingkod sa Kapwa Filipino (Linkapil) for individuals or associations who have significant contributions to reconstruction, progress and development in the Philippines;
• Kaanib ng Bayan Award, conferred on foreign organizations for the same accomplishments under Linkapil;
• Banaag Award, conferred on both Filipino or foreign individuals and organizations for their significant contributions or exceptional service that benefited a sector or community in the Philippines, or advanced the cause of overseas Filipinos; and
• Pamana ng Pilipino, conferred on Filipinos overseas who have brought the Philippines honor and recognition through excellence and distinction in the pursuit of their work or profession.
Nominations and endorsement forms and brochures on the awards are available at the embassy in Riyadh.
According to the press statement, completed nomination and endorsement forms with supporting documents should be received by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas in Manila through the embassy by June 15. It was not immediately clear why the CFO or embassy made this announcement only now, with barely a month to go.
