AMMAN, 28 May 2004 — Riyadh Governor Prince Salman yesterday met with Jordan’s King Abdallah and Prime Minister Faisal Fayez after attending the wedding of Jordan’s Crown Prince Hamzah and Princess Noor.
Fayez “thanked Saudi Arabia anew for its continuous assistance to Jordan in various spheres”, according to an official statement.
“He also expressed his government’s readiness to place all its capabilities at the disposal of ... Saudi Arabia to confront all actions that target the Kingdom’s security and stability,” the statement from the premier’s office said in an apparent reference to a string of attacks in the Kingdom.
The statement said Prince Salman praised the “fraternal ties” between the two countries.
Prince Hamzah’s wedding was attended by some 2,500 guests including royalty and senior officials from countries across the world like Bahrain’s Crown Prince Sheikh Salman ibn Khalifa Al-Thani, the son of the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah ibn Hamad Al-Thani, and Col. Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, the son of the Yemeni president.
The celebration was also attended by Spain’s Queen Sophia, her son Crown Prince Felipe and new wife Letizia Ortiz as well as Belgium’s Queen Fabiola and Prince Philip.
Prince Hamzah and Princess Noor were engaged and had signed the wedding contract in a private ceremony on Aug. 29 last year.
Prince Hamzah is the half brother of King Abdallah, a son of the late King Hussein and Queen Noor.
Born in Amman in 1982, Princess Noor Hamzah is the youngest daughter of Prince Asem ibn Nayef and Princess Fairouzeh.
The wedding was conducted under extraordinary security measures, sources said.
