MAKKAH, 6 June 2004 — The Ministry of Labor is looking at ways of penalizing those who hire runaway maids, Okaz reported. Domestic staff increasingly desert their sponsors, some seeking refuge from mistreatment with their embassies, others taking up new jobs. A ministry source said some employers tempted domestic help away from their sponsors with the offer of higher salaries, and new measures could curb the practice.
