JEDDAH, 8 June 2004 — Police have arrested an Egyptian man for the kidnapping for ransom of his employer’s eight-year-old son in the eastern city of Dammam. Alkhobar police mounted a search for the boy after a call from the father on Wednesday.

The father said the alleged kidnapper, identified as Ayman Muhammad Bastawi Ali, demanded SR500,000 for the release of his son. He said the man informed him on his mobile phone that he would drop the boy in an agreed location five hours after the ransom.

But police “arrested the kidnapper in Dammam and released the boy after pinpointing the location where he was being kept,” the Saudi Press Agency reported. The boy was fine, it added.

It was not immediately clear when the police arrested the kidnapper or how they won the release of the boy.
