JEDDAH, 16 June 2004 — Consul General Dino Lomondot has installed the news officers of Tanglaw Toastmasters Club in a ceremony at Sofitel Hotel on Friday.

Dan Factoran led the inductees as new president of the oldest Toastmasters club in Jeddah. He succeeded Willie Araza.

The other officers are: Renato Lea?o, vice president for education; Mustafa Ay, VP - membership; Romy Tangbawan, VP - public relations; Jerom Peralta, secretary; Naseem Cholan, treasurer; and Rafael Osumo, sergeant-at-arms.

In the club’s education session that followed the induction ceremony, competent toastmaster (CTM) Henry Cabansag topped the prepared speech contest with his “Is Good Enough Good Enough?” entry. Toastmaster (TM) Marah Fuentes won in the table topics contest, in which participants were given two minutes each to discuss a subject picked at random. CTM Ben Guerra won in the evaluation contest, in which participants give a critique on the speeches of the prepared speakers.

Tanglaw Club also honored its outstanding members for 2003-2004. Renato Lea?o was named Outstanding Toastmaster, Zowfir Zaheed won the Most Enthusiastic TM award, and Umar Abdulsalam garnered the Most Improved TM title.

Meanwhile, CTM Mustafa Ay, Tanglaw’s new vice president for membership, was elected governor of Area 11, composed of three toastmasters clubs in Jeddah — Tanglaw, PACE and ALJ.

Area 11 used to have six clubs but the three others — HOPE, PACE and PSME — were plucked out during the recent conference of Toastmasters clubs to form the new Area 24.

Elected governor of Area 24 was CTM Jose Poovathinkal of HOPE.

Toastmastering is one of the fast-growing movements in the Gulf.
