Summer has already descended on us, accompanied by its usual scorching heat, and with it come the holidays. Many still think the people of this country have made the necessary arrangements to enjoy an extended and relaxed vacation. But that is not the case.
Some may have gone abroad or started having a good time here, but many others are still planning their vacation while others are in the process of doing so, but it is equally true that many people are still confined to their homes.
A great many fathers are engaged in heated argument with members of their families over the vacation as we speak. There must be thousands of them, with the family asking such questions as: What kind of vacation are we going to have, what country shall we visit, how about accommodation, do we have to live in a hotel or furnished apartment, what type of transport are we going to use, what are we going to do once we get there, and, most importantly, how much money has the father allocated for the trip?
People are up to their necks in arguments over reservations, ticket prices and other logistics; others keep shuttling between the city and the airport, having failed to secure enough seats; still others are struggling to find a decent hotel to stay.
Thus apart from the scorching heat the summer brings plenty of other annoyance and inconvenience. Even those who never planned to leave the city at all find themselves suffering the headache of following up registration of their children in schools and colleges and finding work for their sons and daughters who just finished school or college.
The holidays for them mean shuttling from one government office and private company to another, carrying bundles of files and documents. The problem is that no government employee would tolerate seeing files and papers pile up on their desks. Everybody seems to hate this job of registering people’s names.
Of course, there are those who stand no chance of enjoying any kind of holiday during the summer. Their work is to serve a public whose needs are growing day by day.
So, do you still think that every one in this country is happily enjoying an extended summer holiday somewhere? The outside temperature may be 48 degrees Celsius, but at home it is surely 50 or above.
