MANAMA, 9 July 2004 — An intoxicated 25-year-old Indian laborer seem to have believed that he had the powers of Spiderman before his assumption came to a painful end after he fell to the ground while trying to scale the pipes of his building to descend his first-story apartment in the heart of the Bahraini capital Manama early yesterday morning.
Shankaraya, from Madras, suffered broken arms after he fell while trying to scale down to his downstairs apartment from the upper floor where he had been reportedly drinking all night.
Passersby discovered him — with the broken pipe next to him — and they in turn alerted police and his roommates.
His roommates said that they did not see him all day and that he did not go to work with them.
It was not immediately apparent if he decided to scale the pipes because he was locked out of his apartment or because he wanted to use a ‘short cut’ to it.
Shankaraya was admitted to Salmanyia Medical Complex where he was said to be in a stable condition.
Police are investigating the incident.
