Newspaper Office Burgled

JEDDAH, 9 August 2004 — Police are investigating a major burglary that took place here early Saturday when thieves broke into the regional office of Al-Jazirah newspaper as well as the offices of three other companies. The burglars escaped with SR120,000 and other valuables.

The robbers apparently used a ladder to get into the office of a chemicals distribution company in the building, Al-Bilad Arabic daily reported, adding that they stole SR20,000 from the company.

“From there they sneaked into the office of Al-Jazirah daily and broke into the office of its director Hassan Al-Shahry and took SR20,000 from the safe as well as a television set, a satellite receiver and a digital camera,” the paper said. The thieves took away a fridge, a receiver and televisions from Al-Shidda Wal Raqaa Est. before heading to the offices of Al-Amri Advertising Agency, Al-Bilad said, adding that they stole SR10,000, cameras and a computer from there.
