MANAMA, 31 August 2004 — A 38-year-old Saudi was seriously injured when his vehicle hit a wall, while another lost his car to a fire in the old souq area in the Bahraini capital early yesterday morning. The two unrelated incidents occurred at 2.40 a.m.
Sami Abdullah Al-Jabreen suffered a severe head injury and a dislocated right shoulder after he lost control of his Caprice as he drove toward Exhibition Avenue and hit the fence of the Hoora Health Center.
He was rushed to the Salmaniya Medical Complex where his condition was said to be critical, but stable.
In a separate incident, a Saudi-registered car was set on fire in the old souq area behind the Adhari Hotel. The fire destroyed the Crown Victoria completely and slightly damaged two Bahraini registered cars parked next to it.
Arson is suspected after investigators discovered the front windshield broken with a rock. Both incidents are being investigated.
