JEDDAH, 10 September 2004 — Four members of a gang of robbers — three Saudis and one Pakistani — have been sentenced to death by a court in Jeddah after being convicted of committing armed robberies in two banks in the city.
A Saudi woman member of the gang was sentenced to five years in jail. However, the court acquitted the woman’s daughter for want of any evidence to link her with the gang, Okaz newspaper reported.
The gang was convicted of robbing the Al-Rajhi bank on Madinah Road and Saudi French bank in Al-Bawadi neighborhood in north Jeddah a year ago.
The criminal gang was led by a man who worked as manager of an entertainment village in Obhor, north of Jeddah.
After each robbery, the gang had been extra careful not to leave any evidence behind. However, the police arrested the gang leader who was hiding in Wadi Fatma, an area between Makkah and Jeddah, and the other robbers were arrested when they their heading to Tabuk.
