British Envoy’s Statement Denied

JEDDAH, 10 September 2004 — An Interior Ministry source yesterday denied the British ambassador Sherard Cowper-Coles’ statement that it was possible that police helped in the escape of terrorists on May 30 at the Al-Waha residential compound in Alkhobar. The ambassador made the statement in a talk on Britain’s Radio 4 on Tuesday.

The source said that the British ambassador to the Kingdom was expressing his opinion and that there was no evidence to corroborate his statement. Besides, it did not reflect what really happened when police carried out their duty to save the lives of residents from different nationalities, including women and children, in the compound.
