KARACHI, 30 September 2004 — The government will import more bulletproof vehicles and gadgets to provide foolproof security to President Gen. Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz during their outstation movements.
The decision was taken at an inter-provincial coordination committee meeting attended by officials looking after the security of the president and the prime minister. Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Sherpao chaired the meeting.
Officials assigned with the security of President Musharraf and Premier Aziz were asked to detail their requirements for security hardware.
In Islamabad there are sufficient number of bulletproof vehicles but when the president or the prime minister move out of the capital, the problem of providing security arises.
A plan to form special security squads for VVIPs at the provincial level also came under discussion.
The meeting also discussed police reforms and the provinces’ demand for more financial assistance to cope with the law and order problem. The federal government expressed its willingness to provide the assistance, sources privy to the meeting said.
The meeting also reviewed the law and order situation in the country and the arrangements being made by the government to facilitate Afghan refugees to vote in the forthcoming elections.
