Pinoys From Abroad Invited to Join Qur’an Reading in Jeddah

JEDDAH, 22 October 2004 — A Qur’an recitation contest will be held in Jeddah on Oct. 28 as part of celebrations for the holy month of Ramadan, organizers said yesterday.

The event dubbed the “First International Filipino Muslim Reading and Memorization Competition” is open to participants from the Kingdom as well as from Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait and Libya.

Spearheading the project is the United Bangsaranao Council (UBC), in cooperation with the Basilan Overseas Muslim Association (Bomwa), the Bangsa Sug (BS), the Filipino Muslim League (FML), the Davao Kalagan Expatriate Association (DKEA) and the Lanao, Davao and Zulu Archipelago (Landazul).

A press release by the organizers said participants must be Filipino citizens and have prior participation in a similar event.
