JEDDAH, 10 November 2004 — The children’s Parliament in Yemen has demanded authorities to ban the use of firecrackers by children during Eid festivities, Assafir.com said in a report yesterday. The Parliament queried the government’s inaction in allowing these dangerous materials into the country. The Yemeni children picked members of their Parliament through election. “These firecrackers are sold at shops and traffic points and the traders who import them pay customs tariff to the state,” a statement issued by the Parliament said. The Parliament added that firecrackers, apart from causing injuries, were a source of suffering for the children. Especially it being a great health hazard apart from causing bodily harm. “They affect children’s health and also trigger violence among children,” it added.
