RIYADH, 11 November 2004 — President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has declared Nov. 15 as a special non-working day throughout the Philippines in observance of the Eid Al-Fitr, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh said yesterday.
Ambassador Bahnarim A. Guinomla said the declaration of the holiday is contained in Proclamation No. 721, which was issued on Oct. 25, pursuant to Republic Act No. 9177.
The proclamation cited the need “to promote cultural understanding and integration” and “to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid Al-Fitr to the fore of national consciousness.”
Guinomla also announced that the embassy will be closed from today to Nov. 19 for the Eid Al-Fitr break. Regular working hours will resume on Nov. 20, he said in a press statement.
