BEIRUT, 30 November 2004 — Lebanon’s annual European Film Festival at Beirut’s Unesco Palace screened the Dutch film “Liever Verliefd” (“Love to Love,” 2003) directed by Pim van Hoeve. The 11th outing for the festival, which runs until Dec. 5, features 27 films, including works from new European Union member states Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Cyprus. The festival has become a popular event on the Beirut calendar, featuring the movies which are not given general release in theaters.
This year, in collaboration with the Lebanese Cinema Foundation, the festival is also screening a short retrospective of prewar Lebanese features, a rare opportunity to watch a little Lebanese film history.
Opening night was graced by local VIPs and opened by EU Ambassador to Lebanon Patrick Renauld as well as “Love to Love’s” director van Hoeve.
