DUBAI, 6 December 2004 — A high-powered ministerial committee was meeting in Dubai yesterday to draw up a United Arab Emirates government negotiating position with the United States on a free trade agreement. The setting up of the committee headed by Sheikh Hamdan ibn Rashid Al-Maktoum, deputy ruler of Dubai and finance and industry minister, reflected the government’s keenness to crystallize its position in coordination with fellow members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) following its criticism of Bahrain for signing a similar agreement last September. “
