MANAMA, 9 December 2004 — The inaugural Bahrain F-3 SuperPrix has added more attractions to a glittering entry list, as all the top drivers in the competitive racing series round off a long and hard season by racing at the Middle East’s premier motor sport circuit.
The event is aiming to attract more than 5,000 people from all over the Gulf will be held for two days i.e. today and tomorrow at the $150 million desert track in Sakhir.
Many other races including the drag race, Mini Challenge and MeCar have been added in the contesting list.
F-3 is the breeding ground of champions. Over the years some of the greatest names in Formula One have driven the fast and nimble single-seater series. The great Brazilian champion Ayrton Senna made his mark in F-3, as did more world champions like Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher. There are 11 national Formula Three championships, such as the British F-3 Championship and All Japan F-3 Championship.
Bahraini Drivers
Three Bahraini drivers will take center stage at the event as they take part in the MeCar Spec Racer Ford Series.
The event supported by Ford, Al-Moayyed Motors and Yokohama announced that the Bahraini dream team of Sheikh Salman ibn Rashid Al Khalifa, Mohammed Al Baharna, and Hamed Al Fardan will be returning to the Bahrain International Circuit to defend their previous round 1 and 2 top showings. Sponsored by the BIC, the drivers will carry the Bahraini flag on their campaign for continued success.
Race fans in the region would like to see an Arab driver in a Formula One cockpit, and these three drivers carry a great deal of potential, having also proved their skills in Formula BMW Asia.
The Spec Racer Ford Series trains new racers and provides experience for the climb to higher levels of racing, while thrilling fans with its fast and close action. In round 2 of the series, Al Baharna and Sheikh Salman battled nose to tail to the checkered flag, providing a true thrill for the fans. MeCar will be releasing a Spring 2005 schedule imminently, with race dates in Bahrain and track days in Dubai.
