Four Drown in Qunfudha Floods

QUNFUDHA, 28 December 2004 — Four people, including two fire department officials, drowned and three injured because of floods caused by heavy rains in Qunfdha province on Sunday, Al-Watan daily reported.

Fire department personnel saved 26 female students and their driver who were stranded in their bus in a flooded street.Police found the bodies of a Pakistani and a Sudanese, who were swept away by floods. The dead Pakistani was identified as Abdul Aziz Khan.

Many roads were damaged and police closed some of them to prevent accidents.

Fire department officers Mansour Al-Abdali and Muheb Al-Sabti died while trying to save a number of citizens stranded in floodwaters. Three officers were injured in the rescue attempt. Reinforcements were rushed from Jeddah to assist in the rescue operations.
