RIYADH, 1 January 2005 — A Saudi man convicted of murdering his mother and then setting the body on fire was executed yesterday, the Interior Ministry said.
A statement said the man was a drug addict who also stole his mother’s jewelry.
Majed ibn Yahia ibn Saeed was convicted of strangling his mother before taking her jewelry. He then took her body to an abandoned building where he set it on fire, said the statement carried by the official SPA news agency.
Majed was executed in the city of Al-Baha and his body displayed in public because of the “atrocity”, the statement said.
Two Iraqis were executed on Dec. 19 for drug smuggling. Mohammad ibn Ali Al-Salami and Faisal ibn Karim Al-Shiblawi were executed in the northern city of Arar.
Three Pakistanis were executed in Jeddah on Dec. 18 after being convicted of drug trafficking, the Interior Ministry said.
