JEDDAH, 17 January 2005 — The roar of propellers will be heard overhead across the Kingdom in the coming weeks as the Flying Bulls, a Czech aerobatics team, revs up for a series of airshows.
In a first-time event, the Flying Bulls will perform live aerial shows in the three major cities of the Kingdom in January and February by invitation of the Saudi Aviation Club (SAC), Bader Al-Sagri, a club manager, told Arab News.
The four pilots’ first performance takes place over the Corniche in Alkhobar on Jan. 31. They then head to Riyadh to perform aerial shows over the Saqr Al-Jazeera Museum on Feb. 2 before ending their tour over Jeddah’s Corniche on Feb. 4.
“The show will be unique and adventurous, and we’re confident that this unprecedented event will attract Saudis,” said SAC Executive Director Capt. Ahmad Al-Juhani.
Capt. Al-Juhani said the Flying Bulls are among the most experienced aerobatics pilots in the world given their participation in numerous international aerobatics events, where they perform daring and exciting moves that require infinite accuracy, sharp-mindedness and extreme concentration.
The team is known to perform several aerial tricks, such as the “mirror position,” where the leading plane flies upward before dropping toward the ground, while the other aircraft continue the course of their flight close to it in the normal position and at low altitude, and perform the reverse move.
“This event, being held with the support of SAC Board Chairman Prince Sultan ibn Salman falls within the scope of the Gulf series during which the pilots will perform unique aerobatics shows starting in the region and passing by the Kingdom,” Capt. Al-Juhani said.
The history of the Flying Bulls Aerobatics Team starts in 1960. The aerobatics team was first established on a small airfield in Chrudim, about 100 km northeast of Prague and very soon became legendary.
“The Flying Bulls’ breathtaking shows are known for their precision and accuracy,” Capt. Al-Juhani said.
