JEDDAH, 29 January 2005 — The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has unearthed a liquor factory inside a luxury villa in Al-Shatie neighborhood in Jeddah, Al-Madinah newspaper reported.
The small distillery, where 70 barrels of liquor were discovered, had the capacity to produce 700 liters of liquor per day. A Saudi man with the help of two foreign men and two foreign women ran the factory.
The commission, which kept the place under surveillance before moving in, said the criminals had turned the luxury villa into a liquor den in the hope that they would not be suspected. They were using a rented car to market the liquor. Police are investigating the case.
