NEW DELHI, 5 February 2005 — Describing the dismissal of the BJP government in Goa as “unconstitutional and arbitrary,” the BJP stalwarts decided yesterday to move the Bombay High Court and also take NDA allies and other parties into confidence. This was discussed at a meeting of party central office bearers and senior leaders, presided over by BJP President L.K. Advani. Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar, who was dismissed from office earlier this week, also attended the meeting.

Before moving the court, the BJP is going to watch the developments in Goa and see whether the newly installed Congress government collapses on its own. BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said: “If we wait, the Congress will come undone on its own. The party is already on the verge of splitting, which is taking the state toward a constitutional crisis.”

At the same time, the BJP leaders are busy consulting legal experts on moving the court. Naqvi said: “We are watching the political situation in Goa, and moving the Bombay High Court against the governor’s action is one of the options before us.”
