To help small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) evolve a continuous data protection model with the ability to rapidly recover data in both centralized and distributed customer environments and ultimately simplify their data management paradigm, VERITAS Middle East has introduced the VERITAS Backup Exec Suite of software. It includes the latest revision of VERITAS Backup Exec 10.0, as well as VERITAS Replication Exec 3.1 and VERITAS Storage Exec 5.3. This combination of products enables SMBs to improve data protection, to restore business faster when data is lost and to reduce their total cost of ownership.
Data Protection: VERITAS Software delivers continuous data protection where organizations face some of their greatest risks to business critical information — in remote offices and on employee desktops and laptops. With the Backup Exec Suite of software, customers are assured that they have protection from a single, integrated, simple to manage solution without having to purchase additional hardware or hire and train new staff.
Data Recovery: For any business, the ability to recover data often translates into the ability to conduct business. Rapid server and data recovery is paramount when it comes to minimizing lost productivity and revenue from unplanned downtime due to viruses, data corruption, hardware failure, human error and unforeseen natural disasters. VERITAS Backup Exec 10.0 software assures fast disk-based recovery.
Data Management: With the continued exponential growth of data, organizations can ill afford the costs of uncontrolled or unmanaged storage. To succeed, they need solutions that help them manage the cost of storage and adhere to legal and regulatory requirements for archiving data. The Backup Exec Suite of software incorporates simplicity and ease of use with a single console that enables administrators to manage and monitor multiple servers across their organizations, helps reduce the level and cost of administration required and easily scales as businesses requirements evolve over time.

Identix‚ FaceIt in Nikon’s Digital Cameras
Nikon and Identix have worked in partnership to develop Face-priority AF (Autofocus). Face-priority AF is a state-of-the-art photography feature that uses the latest digital face finding technology from biometric technology company Identix to automatically detect human faces in the scene and to automatically adjust camera settings — such as focus and gain — to produce optimal images of the faces irrespective of background, lighting or other viewing conditions. The Face-priority AF feature will initially be available in Nikon’s COOLPIX 7900, COOLPIX 7600 and COOLPIX 5900 models.
The face finding technology works in real time and it is able to control the auto-focus even if the person moves or the photographer recomposes the picture. The feature works effectively for both horizontal and vertical positions or even if the camera is tilted. The end result is a smarter camera eliminating the need for the user to manually adjust the settings, making the camera more user-friendly.
