Faqeeh Is Mayor of Jeddah

JEDDAH, 7 March 2005 — Prominent businessman Adel Faqeeh has been appointed mayor of Jeddah. He replaces Abdullah Al-Muallami, whose term ended recently.

“Adel ibn Muhammad Faqeeh is appointed Jeddah mayor with excellent rank,” said a royal decree issued by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd yesterday.

The appointment, which was made on the recommendation of Crown Prince Abdullah, comes ahead of landmark municipal elections in the city.

Faqeeh, who has been chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry since May 2003, is chairman and managing director of Savola Group.

He is also chairman and member of the boards of a number of other companies including Saudi Arabian Glass Company, Al-Jazeera Bank, Al-Marai and United Sugar Company.
