MANAMA, 15 March 2005 — Nine people were injured, including two firemen, in a fire inside a construction company warehouse in Sitra Industrial Area, east of Manama, yesterday.
It took fifty firemen and 15 fire engines to control the blaze that caused extensive damage estimated to run into tens of thousands of Bahraini dinars.
Seven of those injured suffered minor third degree burns with one said to have suffered a broken leg. Two firemen also suffered burns. Five of the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals and health centers while the rest were treated on the scene.
Michael Mcauley, commercial manager of the Projects, said 150 employees were inside the compound when the fire broke out. Projects is one of the leading construction companies in Bahrain.
GCC Traffic Week
The six GCC countries are presently observing the 21st GCC Traffic Week, which is being marked under the theme “Your driving is a reflection of your manners.”
In Bahrain the week began on Saturday with elementary schoolchildren from across the country offering roses to traffic policemen as a sign of appreciation for the role they play.
