JEDDAH, 21 March 2005 — Al-Ittihad scored a 4-1 victory away to Al-Riyadh in one of three matches yesterday in the King Fahd Cup soccer tournament.
Al-Qadisiya and Al-Ittifaq drew 1-1 in Dammam, while the all-Madinah match between Ohud and Al-Ansar ended in a 2-2 draw.
The win, coming after consecutive defeats against Al-Ansar and Qadisiya, strengthened Ittihad’s position at third place on 34 points.
Meantime, Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, president of the Saudi Football Federation, has approved the recommendation of the technical committee to include Hilal goalkeeper, Hassan Al-Otaibi, and Shabab player, Hassan Moaz, in the list of candidates for the Saudi national team now deep in training in Dammam for crucial World Cup qualifying matches against Korea on Friday and Kuwait on March 30.
The national team technical committee also agreed to release four players to their mother clubs. They are Muhammad Nur from Ittihad, Ahmad Al-Dokhi from Hilal, Mansour Al-Thagafi from Nasr and Abdul Muhsin Al-Dossari from Shabab.
Rangers Crush Motherwell to Lift League Cup
In Glasgow, Rangers crushed Motherwell 5-1 at Hampden Park to win the Scottish League Cup in emphatic style yesterday, Reuters adds.
Rangers got off to a flying start with two goals inside the first 10 minutes from Maurice Ross and Sotirios Kyrgiakos before David Partridge pulled one back for Motherwell.
Fernando Ricksen added Rangers’ third on 33 minutes and the victory turned into a rout in the second half with further goals from Nacho Novo and a second of the day for Greek defender Kyrgiakos.
