Pakistani Expatriates Mark National Day

JEDDAH, 24 March 2005 — The Pakistani community in the Kingdom yesterday celebrated their country’s National Day with flag-raising ceremonies at the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate General in Jeddah.

Ambassador Adm. (Retd) Abdul Aziz Mirza unfurled the national flag at the chancery in Riyadh. National Day messages of President Gen. Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz were read out.

Students of Pakistani school presented a colorful cultural program.

In Jeddah, Consul General Masood Akhtar highlighted the importance of the day and urged the community to stand united. He stressed that linguistic, regional, racial and sectarian differences must be ignored and the spirit of Islam as a pivotal point be strengthened. Students of Pakistan International School (English section) sang national songs and presented various cultural programs to mark the occasion.

Pakistani Minister for Labor, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Ghulam Sarwar Khan was chief guest at the ceremony. He later announced full financial support for the school.
