For 10 years the Muslim Directory has been the principal resource and essential guide to businesses and services for the 1.8 million strong Muslim community residing in the UK. The directory was initiated by a group of young business visionaries who felt there was a need for a consistent, comprehensive and dynamic community resource for UK Muslims. It was hoped that with time the Muslim Directory would empower, strengthen and network the UK’s Muslim community within economic, social and political contexts. Today the Muslim Directory has an audited circulation of 113,000 copies making it the largest circulating Muslim publication in the UK.
The new Muslim Directory Online (www.muslimdirectory.co.uk) offers a selection of community specific search facilities. Search UK businesses, mosques, schools and organizations. There are also sections devoted to company profiles, events and activities, business resources, news, Islam and Prayer Times.
“Both the hard-copy Muslim Directory and the website are great resources for the Muslim community and other Muslim and non-Muslim institutions,” said Naeem Darr, editor, Muslim Directory. “The directory was recently praised by the UK secretary of state for trade and industry as being a ‘super resource’ for the entire community.”
He continued, “In the near future we will be adding many of the sections that are found in the hard-copy to the website. These included sections like Muslim Names, Islamic Glossary and Health & Safety (in partnership with www.muslimhealthnetwork.org) to name but a few. We hope that every Muslim community benefits from the website and hope that individuals, organizations and businesses support both the directory and the website to make the Muslim community in the UK and overseas economically, socially and politically stronger.”
