JEDDAH, 7 April 2005 — Eighty children receiving treatment in local hospitals enjoyed a fun day in the sun at Al-Shalal Amusement Park last Thursday. The outing, which was organized by the National Foundation for Home Health Care (NFHHC) and sponsored by Sadafco, was attended by more than 200 people.
“We organized the event for children who are receiving care through the NFHCC, their siblings and parents. We were happy with the turnout and it looks as if the day were a total success,” said Nadia Al-Zuhair, the foundation’s executive director.
The event began at 11 a.m. and went on for four and a half hours. The recently opened amusement park welcomed the children, their siblings and parents as well as a number of volunteers who work with the children on a regular basis. The event was organized by Randa Al-Fadl, Lama Al-Sulaiman and Latifa Al-Saleh.
All the rides were operating and the children had full access of the park including the ice-skating rink. “This was a good opportunity for parents who have children receiving hospital care to network. But for the children it was all about having fun,” Al-Zuhair added.
The children were put in small groups led by a volunteer and they went around the park enjoying the rides, skits, face painting and other activities put on for them. A large lunch was also provided. Lamia Al-Fadl, Salwa Al-Azem, Asma Al-Sulaiman and Amina Ghassan Abduljawad were among the volunteers.
Children from the Princess Noura Oncology Department at the National Guard Hospital and from the Oncology Department at King Abdul Aziz General Hospital as well as from the First Women’s Charitable Organization also participated in the day’s activities.
The National Foundation for Home Health Care is a non-profit organization which facilitates in-home care for hospital patients of all ages.
